Meet our Founder
Chris Simons was born in Japan and raised in Redmond, Washington. Her early career included marketing roles at several Pacific Northwest companies, including Microsoft and Eddie Bauer, but her eye has always been drawn to beautiful things that elevate the spirit and are impeccably designed. Chris then decided to study residential interior design at the Seattle Art Institute and spent the next 18 years building a successful residential design business with a mission to help clients elevate their homes.
Eventually, she decided it was time for the next step and began conceptualizing Calm Living that opened in October 2021. “After 18 years of running my residential design business I wanted to share my vision for inspired living with a broader audience,” shares Chris. “I launched Calm Living as a lifestyle store in Redmond as I grew up here and want to invest in the community.”
Calm Living features a curated collection of furniture, décor, table accents, lighting, gifts, artwork and more. Guests will also discover brands that are based in the Pacific Northwest and women-owned as part of the store’s mission to support local. “When you visit Calm Living you will find everything you need to create spaces that are both beautiful and inspired,” explains Chris.
As for how she landed on the name Calm? “The word popped into my head one morning. I was naming my design business and intuitively I knew it was meant to be. The word also pays tribute to my family—Chris, Alex, Logan and McKaela. ‘Calm.'”
